Alliance to Contest Next Election, Walwyn Criticizes “Intimidation” by Political Establishment
Hon. Myron Walwyn, the Sixth District representative and leader of the opposition, said Wednesday, October 15, that “since he and fellow opposition members Hon. Melvin “Mitch” Turnbull and Hon. Stacy “Buddha” Mather formed an alliance in the House of Assembly, “attacks from political oligarchsdriven solely by a desire to protect their personal interests and influence – have been both fierce and relentless.”
The Opposition Leader adding that the pressure has “strengthened our conviction that it is high time all the people of the Virgin Islands have equal access, benefits, and responsibilities.”
In his Facebook post, Walwyn said some within the political establishment “behave as if the Virgin Islands belong to them—and them alone,” accusing unnamed figures of “using intimidation to silence those with different views or approaches, creating division and seeking to establish social constructs … to protect their personal interests.” “This must come to an end,” he said.
The statement comes as the three-member Alliance said it plans to contest the next general election as a unified group, confirming steps toward operating together beyond the House. Turnbull represents the Second District and Mather serves as a territorial at-large representative.
Walwyn was appointed leader of the opposition on March 24 by Governor Daniel Pruce after shifts among opposition benches earlier this year. He succeeded Hon. Ronnie Skelton, who previously held the role.
Walwyn’s unsuccessfully brought no-confidence motion in late July against Premier Hon. Natalio Wheatley’s government, which the premier later described as a political “flop.” Walwyn has defended the effort as a legitimate test of the administration’s performance, citing concerns over spending priorities and basic services.

Governor’s Office Delivers Trauma Risk Management Training to Frontline Officers in Virgin Islands
The Governor’s Office, with support from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, this week delivered Trauma Risk Management (TRiM) training to frontline officers in the Virgin Islands, including members of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, prison officers and volunteers from Virgin Islands Search and Rescue (VISAR).
The program is designed to help first responders recognize and manage the psychological effects of traumatic incidents encountered in the course of their duties. Participants received instruction on identifying early signs of stress-related responses and providing peer support following critical events.
According to the Governor’s Office, the training forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen welfare and resilience within frontline services across the territory.
“By strengthening welfare and resilience within our front line services, we are ensuring that the people who protect us are supported themselves,” the Governor’s Office said in a statement.
Officials thanked participants for their involvement and acknowledged the trainer for leading the sessions.
Trauma Risk Management, commonly known as TRiM, is a peer-support process used in emergency services and military settings to assess and address the mental health impact of traumatic exposure.
