Deputy Governor David D. Archer Jr. began serving as Acting Governor on Nov. 22 during the absence of Gov. Daniel Pruce, who will be out of the Territory until Dec. 23 to attend the Joint Ministerial Council and take annual leave, officials announced.
Archer’s appointment follows section 37(1)(a) of the Virgin Islands Constitution Order 2007, which authorizes the Deputy Governor to act in the office of Governor when the Governor is absent or otherwise unable to perform the functions of the post.
His Oath of Allegiance and Oath for the Due Execution of Office were administered by Justice Angelica Teelucksingh in the presence of Gov. Pruce before his departure.
Governor Pruce is scheduled to participate in the annual Joint Ministerial Council meetings in the United Kingdom before proceeding on leave, Government House said.
Archer will perform all constitutional duties of the Governor until Dec. 23.
