Police Investigate Two Reports of Gunfire in the Virgin Islands

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force is investigating two separate reports of gunfire that occurred last week in Tortola and Virgin Gorda.

In the early hours of Aug. 15, officers responded to an anonymous call reporting shots fired in the Long Look area, police said. At the scene, officers found evidence of recent firearm discharges and impact marks on the exterior of a residence. Forensic officers processed the location, and an investigation is underway.

On Aug. 17, police received another report of shots fired in Virgin Gorda. Officers responded, and inquiries into that matter are ongoing.

“The RVIPF is taking these incidents very seriously. We will continue to pursue every lead to ensure those responsible are held accountable,” Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline Vanterpool said in a statement. “We also urge anyone with information to come forward, as your cooperation is vital to keeping our communities safe.”

Police are asking anyone with information to contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368-9512 or to share information anonymously through the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-8477 (TIPS) or 284-800-8477 from overseas.
