The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force said in a press release issued Friday, Sept. 26, that it had increased security for the Anti-Crime Summit after receiving unverified information about a potential threat to the event. The force, led by Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline E. Vanterpool, announced the measures as part of a coordinated safety plan.
The RVIPF said it directed a multi-agency security operation that deployed both armed and unarmed officers to the summit and surrounding areas. Additional assistance was provided by law enforcement partners.
“While there has been no confirmed threat, the safety of all attendees and members of the public is our highest priority. Officers were on site to ensure that the summit proceeded safely and without disruption,” the release stated.
The RVIPF reminded the public to remain calm but vigilant and to report any suspicious activity by contacting the force’s Intelligence Unit at 368-9339 or the nonemergency number 311.
Police said the summit went ahead as planned and expressed confidence in the security measures that were implemented.
