Team BVI to Compete in WAAm Caribbean Development Championship 2024
The British Virgin Islands (BVI) archery team has departed for Kingston, Jamaica, to compete in the 2024 WAAm Caribbean Development Championship. Hosted by the Jamaica Archery Federation (JAI), the event runs from September 18 to 22 and will feature top talent from around the Caribbean and beyond.
The competition provides an opportunity for the BVI team, a mix of beginners and developmental archers, to test their skills against athletes from countries to leave their mark on the regional stage. Leading the charge in the Recurve Beginner Under 15 Men category is Matthew Keandré, while David Persaud will compete in the Recurve Developmental Men category. Both will be testing their skills in the qualification rounds for their respective categories.
The Compound Beginner Under 15 Women category sees Kasadiyah Baird aiming for success, while Naomi Onwufuju and Keyara Smith will represent the BVI in the Compound Developmental Under 18 Women category. Javlyn Frett also joins the developmental ranks in the Compound Developmental Women category, setting her sights on strong results.
Kellyann Tillack, competing in the Recurve Beginner Under 18 Women category, rounds out the squad, each determined to put BVI archery on the map.
Coaches Ritseeniyah Georges and Patrick Smith will be guiding the team through the competition, providing essential support and expertise to help the young athletes navigate this important event.
The competition will feature other archers from regional heavyweights like Jamaica, the Bahamas, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago. Jamaica, the host nation, leads the pack with a 34-member contingent, while countries like Guyana and the US Virgin Islands (USVI) are also sending strong teams. The United States has joined the competition as well, bringing an additional level of intensity to the championship.

Winston Bolus League Opens With Wins for Relentless and Run It Up
– Premier Wheatley Tips Off Season with Ceremonial Free Throw
The 2026 Winston Bolus National District Basketball League opened Saturday, May 9, at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex, with four games played over two days as the British Virgin Islands Basketball Association resumed organized district basketball competition.
Premier Natalio D. Wheatley officially opened the league by taking a ceremonial free throw during the opening ceremony, which marked the start of a season designed to strengthen coaching and expand opportunities for young athletes across the Virgin Islands.
Saturday’s schedule began with a Junior Division matchup in which Skillfull Ballers Club defeated On A Mission of the Ninth District, 79-27.
Azani Frett led Skillfull Ballers Club with 17 points. Neshaun Frett added 14 points, four steals and three blocks, while Azaniah Glasgow contributed 13 points and five assists.
On A Mission was led by Caleb Stuart, who scored 10 points and added three rebounds and one block.
In Saturday’s Senior Division game, Relentless of the Fourth District defeated VG Elite of the Ninth District, 90-70.
Shakeem Blackemor scored 29 points to lead Relentless. Devante Brewley added 16 points, and Tavon Phillip contributed 13 points.
VG Elite was paced by Shamarr George with 24 points, while Stephano Paul added 14 points.
On Sunday, Mt. Zion Stars of the Second District edged Young Empire of the Eighth District, 54-49, in Junior Division play.
Zion Phillip led Mt. Zion Stars with 25 points and 19 rebounds. Michael Sue added 10 points, including seven in the fourth quarter.
Young Empire was led by Jaleil Matthew with 15 points, while Ricco Bailey scored 12.
In the final game of the weekend, Run It Up of the Third District defeated Empire of the Eighth District, 63-45, in the Senior Division.
Kymal Panchoo recorded 23 points and 13 rebounds for Run It Up, and Jamal Serrante added 15 points.
Empire was led by Dreyonte Findlay with 14 points.

East Winds Take Top Spot in BVIFA Under-14 Youth League After Week 3
East Winds moved to the top of the British Virgin Islands Football Association’s Under-14 Youth League standings after a 4-2 victory over South Breeze in Week 3, while West Tides earned a 2-1 win over North Shores.
The results left East Winds and South Breeze level on six points after three matches, but East Winds took first place on goal difference, with a plus-eight margin compared with South Breeze’s even goal difference. North Shores and West Tides each have three points.
Latwahn Stevens scored twice for East Winds, and Charlie Sanders and George Hollingworth added one goal each. South Breeze received goals from Jezaan Demming and Christian Campbell. Kajon Caines of East Winds and Campbell of South Breeze were named the match’s most valuable players.
In the second match, O’keil McKennon scored both goals for West Tides in its victory over North Shores. Julian Johnson scored North Shores’ only goal. Johnson and McKennon were selected as the game’s most valuable players.
George Hollingworth of East Winds and Latwahn Stevens lead the league scoring race with four goals each. Demming, Johnson and McKennon are tied for second with three goals apiece.
McKennon also leads the league’s MVP standings with two awards. Ioan Jones, J’Moi Scatliffe, Charlie Sanders, Trevoa Stevens, Demming, Saxton Stoutt, Hollingworth, Caines, Johnson and Campbell have each received one MVP selection.

VIFAF Hosts Inaugural Outdoor Field Archery Championships at Paraquita Bay
The Virgin Islands Field Archery Federation (VIFAF) has successfully staged its first Outdoor Field Championships, marking a significant step forward in the development of the sport locally. The three-day competition, held at Paraquita Bay from April 10–12, 2026, brought together a mix of local and international archers for a demanding test of skill and endurance.
The federation also extended thanks to sponsors Walkers and Mr. Rentals for their support of the championships.
