Two 17-year-old males were arrested in Road Town on the evening of Thursday, July 17, after police recovered a loaded Glock 19 pistol during a stop-and-search operation, authorities confirmed. Officers with the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) responded to a report of suspicious activity and intercepted the teens. A search revealed the firearm, which contained 12 rounds of ammunition. Both suspects were taken into custody. Investigations are ongoing.
“This was a well-executed operation that reflects the vigilance and professionalism of our officers,” said Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline Vanterpool.
The arrest is the latest in a series of firearm seizures this year as part of the RVIPF’s intensified efforts to reduce gun crime across the Territory. The seizure brings the total number of illegal firearms recovered in 2025 to 13—matching the figure for the same period last year.
Authorities also report a sharp rise in ammunition confiscated, with 995 rounds removed from circulation so far this year. This marks a 67 percent increase compared to the 333 rounds seized by this time in 2024.
Among the firearms recovered this year are high-powered weapons including the Springfield XD, High Point C9, Stribog SP9A1, P80 Handgun, and Glock 30mm.
“Each illegal weapon removed from our streets is a step towards a safer Virgin Islands,” Vanterpool said. “We are grateful to the public for continuing to support our efforts by reporting suspicious behaviour. Together, we are stronger.”
