Tropical Disturbance in Atlantic Could Approach Virgin Islands, Officials Warn

A disturbance in the Atlantic Ocean is showing signs of strengthening and could move closer to the Virgin Islands in the coming days, according to the Virgin Islands Disaster Management Office.

Officials said the system’s track remains uncertain but trends indicate a possible approach that could bring heavy rainfall, flooding, gusty winds and dangerous seas to the territory. Residents were advised to prepare now rather than wait for warnings.

“The risk of flooding is increasing, and waiting could leave little time to prepare,” the Disaster Management Office said in its update.

Authorities urged the public to stock up on food, water, medicine and batteries, and to clear drains and yards to reduce flooding risk.

Even if the disturbance does not develop into a hurricane, officials cautioned that the system could still produce hazardous conditions across the territory.

Residents were advised to monitor official updates as the system develops.
