All government offices are to delay opening until 11:00 a.m. today to allow for essential safety inspections and flood cleanup after heavy overnight rainfall caused flooding and landslides throughout the Territory .
The Office of the Deputy Governor issued a statement this morning, Monday 11, mandating the later opening time to ensure public safety and operational readiness.
“Barring any weather-related concerns or significant damage, all offices should be prepared to open by 11:00 a.m.,” stated Deputy Governor David D. Archer, Jr. He instructed senior managers and department heads to assess the safety of their office spaces immediately, coordinating with the Public Works Department (PWD) as it works to clear roadways and affected areas.
In cases of flooding or other issues at office premises, officials have been directed to report immediately to Public Estate Manager Mr. Floyd Stoutt for assistance. “Any flooding or accommodation concerns should be reported immediately to the Public Estate Manager,” the statement specified, underscoring the government’s quick action to address the impact of the severe weather.
Recognising that some officers may need time to address personal or family needs due to the flooding, the Deputy Governor’s Office is also encouraging flexible work arrangements. “Department Heads are encouraged to activate the Flexible Working Arrangement Policy to support remote work, wherever feasible,” the statement advised, particularly for those managing household impacts or caring for children who are at home today.
As the British Virgin Islands near the end of the Atlantic Hurricane Season, the Deputy Governor’s Office is reminding residents to stay alert and to monitor updates from the Department of Disaster Management. “Your safety remains our highest priority,” Mr. Archer affirmed, thanking public officers for their resilience and commitment during this challenging period.
