The BVI Postal Service announced Friday that it has temporarily suspended the shipment of mail items containing goods bound for the United States and its territories following the introduction of U.S. Executive Order 14324.
The suspension affects parcels destined for the U.S. mainland as well as American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Letters and documents are not affected and will continue to be accepted and processed, postal officials said.
Executive Order 14324, which took effect immediately, eliminates the duty-free de minimis exemption and requires all international parcels, regardless of value, to be subject to U.S. import duties.
The Postal Service said the suspension will remain in place until further notice. In a statement, the agency apologized for the inconvenience and thanked customers for their understanding and continued support.
