The Environmental Health Division on Thursday reminded food business proprietors that a valid Food Business License issued by the division is required to operate in the Virgin Islands, citing Part IX, Section 28 of the Public Health Food Hygiene Regulations 1972, according to Acting Chief Environmental Health Officer Ms. Henrietta Alexander.
“A Food Business License confirms that an establishment has been registered, inspected, and has met the necessary requirements to operate as a food business within the Virgin Islands,” Ms. Alexander said.
The division said the license is valid for one year from the date of issuance and must be displayed in a conspicuous location at all times. Proprietors will be in violation of the regulations if the license is removed, damaged, hidden, obscured or allowed to become illegible.
Businesses that have been inspected and approved may collect their licenses at the Environmental Health Division Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. For assistance with the licensing process, the public may contact the division at (284) 468-5110.
The division said it remains committed to safeguarding public health through enforcement of food hygiene standards.
