The Government of the Virgin Islands, through the Ministry of Health and Social Development, has signed a $1.7 million contract with Island Concrete Limited for the construction of the Long Look Social Home Complex.
The agreement, signed Nov. 3, marks a major step in the government’s efforts to strengthen the territory’s social protection network and provide long-term housing and support for chronically homeless individuals and residents facing severe economic hardship.
The new facility, to be built in the Long Look community, will provide structured accommodation and rehabilitation services aimed at reintegration and independent living. Once completed, it will operate alongside the existing Safe Haven Transitional Center as part of a broader system of social care.
Premier and Minister of Finance Hon. Dr. Natalio D. Wheatley described the project as “a symbol of our collective compassion and commitment to ensuring that every Virgin Islander, regardless of circumstance, has access to the support they need to rebuild their lives with dignity.”
Minister for Health and Social Development Hon. Vincent Wheatley said the complex represents a cornerstone of the ministry’s transformation toward greater social inclusion. “The Long Look Social Home Complex is not just a building,” he said. “It is a safe place for recovery, empowerment, and transition and a testament to what can be achieved when government, private sector, and community work together for the common good.”
Island Concrete Limited Managing Director Dion Crabbe said his company was honored to be part of the project and pledged timely, cost-effective completion with opportunities for local residents to participate in the construction process.
The contract, valued at $1,722,396.36, is expected to be completed by December 2026. The Ministry of Health and Social Development said it remains committed to strengthening programs and partnerships that promote the health and social well-being of Virgin Islands residents.
