The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has increased its presence across the Territory following a rise in robberies and the escape of two inmates from His Majesty’s Prison. Over the past 24 hours, officers have conducted high-visibility patrols and stop-and-search operations, resulting in the recovery of two firearms and the arrest of three men, the RVIPF confirmed on Wednesday, Oct. 29.
Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline Vanterpool commended officers for their continued vigilance. “The RVIPF remains fully engaged in both the ongoing manhunt and in tackling the recent spate of robberies,” she said. “Our officers are working around the clock to disrupt criminal activity, recover illegal weapons, and ensure that residents feel safe in their communities. We continue to rely on the public’s cooperation as we bring offenders to justice.”
The two escaped prisoners, identified as Jose Almestica and John Burgos, remain at large. Residents are urged not to approach them but to contact police immediately at 368-9339, 311, or through Crimestoppers at 800-8477 with any information regarding their whereabouts.
The RVIPF also advised residents to remain vigilant, secure their homes and vehicles, and avoid leaving keys inside vehicles.
Police officials expressed appreciation for the public’s continued cooperation and assured that officers are working to maintain safety and security throughout the Virgin Islands.
