The Virgin Islands Social Security Board (SSB) celebrated its 45th anniversary this year, marking its founding under Act No. 17 of 1979, which became effective on July 2, 1980. The board unveiled a special 45th-anniversary logo and introduced the theme “The Way Forward,” emphasizing renewed priorities in innovation, community connection and wellness.
The anniversary was observed as both a tribute to the institution’s founders and a reaffirmation of its mission to provide social protection and financial security to residents of the Virgin Islands.
Established by legislation in 1979 and implemented in 1980, the Social Security Board has operated for four-and-a-half decades as a cornerstone of the territory’s social safety net.
A statement marking the anniversary read: “For 45 years, the Virgin Islands Social Security Board has stood as a pillar of strength, reliability and care in our community. As we mark this milestone, we celebrate the countless lives touched, the promises kept and the unwavering dedication to social protection and financial security.”
Looking ahead, officials said the theme “The Way Forward” reflects both respect for the board’s history and a commitment to evolving services for future generations.
