Virgin Islands May Face Tropical Storm Watch Within 24 Hours as Erin Approaches

The Virgin Islands could be placed under a tropical storm watch within the next 24 hours as Tropical Storm Erin moves toward the region, the Department of Disaster Management said Thursday. At 5 p.m., Erin was located about 900 miles east-southeast of the territory, with a gradual west-northwestward shift in its track possible Thursday night into Friday.

Earlier Thursday, the Virgin Islands was placed under a Tropical Cyclone Alert. Forecasts indicate the system could bring strong winds, rough seas, and flooding over the weekend, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Residents and visitors are urged to monitor official updates and review preparedness plans.

The Department of Disaster Management emphasized that it is not a meteorological office and that its updates are drawn from contracted professional sources. The agency noted the information should be treated as guidance only and not as legal evidence or justification for decisions that could result in financial, property, or life loss.
