The British Virgin Islands will send its largest delegation of athletes to the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, scheduled for Sept. 13–21, 2025, according to the BVI Athletics Association. Six athletes — Kyron McMaster, Rikkoi Brathwaite, Chantel Malone, Beyoncé Defreitas, Jaleel Croal, and Djimon Gumbs — have qualified to compete.
McMaster, the 2023 silver medalist in the 400-meter hurdles, will return in his signature event. Brathwaite will run in the 100 meters, joined by first-time qualifier Croal. Defreitas will compete in the 200 meters. Malone, a former semifinalist, will represent the Territory in the long jump, while Gumbs will compete in the shot put.
This marks the largest team the Territory has fielded since its first appearance at the World Athletics Championships in 1983.
The BVI Athletics Association said it will hold a media briefing one week before the competition. Athletes are expected to participate remotely.
