Ministry Demos New 911 Dispatch System for Top Officials

The Ministry of Health and Social Development hosted a live demonstration of the Territory’s new 911 computer-aided dispatch system for Health and Social Development Minister Vincent O. Wheatley, Gov. Daniel Pruce, Acting Police Commissioner Jacqueline Vanterpool and Russell Jones, director of the 911 and Emergency Operations Centre, outlining how the platform that went live Sept. 11 is designed to speed response times and tighten coordination among fire, police and medical services.

Officials said the system integrates real-time GPS tracking, digital mapping and access to location data through Town and Country Planning’s GIS database, and enables instant cross-agency communication.

The showcase followed hands-on training in September for Fire Service officers, police and 911 personnel at the Emergency Operations Centre.

“The launch of this new 911 system gives our emergency teams the tools they need to respond faster and coordinate better,” Wheatley said.

“It was important for our leaders to see how the system works in real time,” Jones said. “This technology prioritizes accuracy, communication and speed.”

The ministry said it will continue investing in technology and training to strengthen public safety.
