James Gordon, a man in his 70s who was on remand for assault charges, was found dead in his cell at His Majesty’s Prison on Sept. 16, sources confirmed.
Gordon was reportedly discovered unresponsive during routine checks. Emergency services were called and he was pronounced dead. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear.
The Ministry of Health and Social Development and the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force have been notified, and an investigation into the matter is underway.
Gordon had been held at the facility pending trial.
