A tropical disturbance in the Atlantic has a high probability of developing into a tropical system within the next seven days, according to the British Virgin Islands Department of Disaster Management and the U.S. National Hurricane Center.
As of Sunday, the system was located about 3,000 miles east-southeast of the Virgin Islands and moving west-northwest. Early forecasts indicate the disturbance could pass north of the territory later this week, though officials said it is too soon to determine the exact track or potential impacts.
No watches or warnings have been issued. Marine and coastal interests are advised to monitor updates closely, as swells, rough seas and gusty winds are possible later this week depending on the system’s path.
The Department of Disaster Management urged residents to review hurricane season plans, follow official updates from the department and the National Hurricane Center, and for boaters to keep schedules flexible.
