BVI Ports Authority Security Officers Complete Training in Partnership with RVIPF
Fifteen security officers attached to the British Virgin Islands Ports Authority (BVIPA) have completed an intensive training course conducted in partnership with the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), aimed at strengthening port security operations in line with international and regional standards.
The training, held from 14 to 18 July 2025, took place at the Virgin Islands Law Enforcement Marine Base and was facilitated by accredited RVIPF instructors. The sessions were designed to enhance the officers’ capabilities in managing safety and security across the territory’s ports, ensuring compliance with evolving maritime security protocols.
In a statement issued following the training, BVIPA Managing Director Akeem Pickering highlighted the importance of ongoing professional development in the security sector.
“It is critical that our security officers are prepared to meet the demands of their roles and uphold the level of professionalism required in port security,” Pickering said. “We remain committed to equipping our team with the necessary tools and training to perform their duties effectively.”
The BVI Ports Authority has continued to prioritise investments in training as part of its broader mandate to maintain secure, efficient, and compliant port operations. The organisation manages all official sea ports within the British Virgin Islands, including the 1,312-foot-long cruise pier, which accommodates vessels up to 180,000 gross registered tonnes.
