The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) Marine Branch intercepted a vessel shortly after midnight Wednesday, Aug. 20, recovering a semi-automatic Glock pistol and two magazines loaded with ammunition, officials said.
Three individuals were on board the vessel and were taken to the Road Town Police Station for questioning, according to police. The search was conducted after the vessel was stopped during a routine patrol.
Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline Vanterpool said the operation underscored the importance of vigilance in preventing firearms from reaching the territory. “The swift actions of our Marine Officers highlight the vigilance and professionalism required to keep illegal firearms off our streets,” Vanterpool said in a statement. “Each weapon seized represents lives potentially saved.”
The RVIPF said investigations remain ongoing. Authorities urged the public to report information related to illegal weapons or suspicious activity by contacting the Intelligence Unit at 368-9339 or Crime Stoppers at 800-8477 (TIPS) or (284) 800-8477 from overseas.
