The family of Jevonte Barnes has launched an online fundraiser for urgent medical care after he was critically injured during an armed robbery at a Road Town bar early Saturday, October 4.
“Every donation, no matter the amount, makes a real difference in covering his transport and treatment costs,” the family wrote, adding that they cannot afford the expenses at this time. They urged the public to donate or share the appeal to broaden support.
The fundraiser states that funds will be used for immediate medical needs and related logistics. No additional details about the attack or arrests were provided at the time of publication.
Police said two armed suspects entered the establishment, robbed several patrons and discharged a firearm. Barnes sustained serious injuries and was transported to Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital, where he remains under care.
The incident followed a series of armed robberies across the territory in the past week, including a vehicle stolen at gunpoint on Beef Island that was later linked to another robbery in Road Town. In the earlier cases, masked men carrying firearms stole valuables; no injuries were reported.
“We are deeply concerned about the recent spate of armed robberies and last night’s shooting. These reckless acts threaten the safety and security of our community and will not be tolerated,” Ms. Vanterpool said. “Our officers are working tirelessly to identify and apprehend those responsible. We are asking members of the public who may have information to come forward and assist us in ensuring justice is served.”
The RVIPF issued a public advisory urging residents to exercise caution, particularly when wearing jewelry at night, noting reports that robbers are targeting individuals displaying valuables after dark.
