A New King
Charles III was this morning officially crowned the King of the United Kingdom and 14 other Commonwealth realms.
At Westminster Abbey on Saturday, May 6, Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby placed the St Edward’s Crown on the King’s head.
His wife Camila was also crowned queen during the coronation ceremony which was attended by British Virgin Islands Premier and Minister of Finance Natalio Wheatley and wife and BVI Governor John J. Rankin, and other Caribbean dignitaries.
King Charles was born in Buckingham Palace during the reign of his maternal grandfather, George VI, and was three years old when his mother, Elizabeth II, acceded to the throne in 1952, making him the heir apparent.
Queen Elizabeth died on September 8, 2022 after reigning for 70 years and 214 days.
She was the longest-reigning British monarch.
