Road conditions across the Virgin Islands have deteriorated due to ongoing inclement weather, prompting Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Kye M. Rymer to urge motorists to exercise caution and limit travel where possible.
Periods of heavy rainfall have reduced visibility and increased the risk of debris and hazardous driving conditions on roadways throughout the Territory, according to the Ministry of Communications and Works.
“Motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel and proceed with care if they must be on the road,” the ministry said in a statement.
The Public Works Department is actively monitoring road conditions across all islands, with crews on standby to respond to issues such as debris clearance and drainage concerns.
Motorists are being advised to remain alert, reduce speed and prioritize safety while traveling, particularly in areas prone to flooding or falling debris.
Officials also encouraged the public to stay informed through the Department of Disaster Management’s alert systems, including its mobile applications and WhatsApp channel, which provide real-time updates on hazards and weather-related developments.
The advisory comes as weather conditions continue to impact the Territory, with authorities emphasizing the importance of precautionary measures to reduce the risk of accidents.
