The BVI Athletics Association announced that a 27-member national team departed today, April 1, for St. George’s, Grenada, to compete in the 53rd CARIFTA Games, scheduled for April 4–6 at the Kirani James Stadium. The team, which includes athletes, coaches and technical officials, was officially named on March 26 during a press conference at Duff’s Bottom.
The delegation is led by Team Manager Tarika Moses and Head Coach Annabelle Skelton-Malone, and includes NACAC-appointed referee Rosalind Leonard-Fahie and pole vault official Dezarre Woodley.
Speaking at the team announcement, BVI Athletics President Asley Kelly encouraged athletes to remain focused on development, while Minister for Education, Youth Affairs and Sports Hon. Sharie de Castro confirmed $100,000 in government support for athletics and plans to resurface the national track.
