The British Virgin Islands was linked to billions of dollars in global transactions in 2025, with companies and legal firms in the territory involved in major cross-border deals, according to a report published by Financial IT.
The report highlighted the use of BVI structures in several high-value transactions across sectors including healthcare, technology, travel and digital assets.
Among the largest deals was the £5.2 billion sale of Barchester Healthcare to Welltower. BVI-linked entities were also involved in Prosus’ $1.7 billion acquisition of Despegar.com, a Latin American online travel company.
In the digital asset sector, firms operating in the jurisdiction advised on the $375 million acquisition of crypto investment platform Echo by Coinbase, as well as transactions involving crypto derivatives exchange Deribit.
The report highlighted the continued use of BVI structures in complex cross-border transactions.
Elise Donovan, chief executive officer of BVI Finance, said the sector’s performance reflects its global reach.
“2025 demonstrated the depth and maturity of the British Virgin Islands’ financial services sector,” Donovan said. “The industry delivered sophisticated solutions across digital assets, capital markets, restructuring and sustainable finance.”
Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. Natalio D. Wheatley said the territory remains active in international markets.
“For complex cross-border activity, the BVI remains the jurisdiction of choice, supported by a strong regulatory framework and a commitment to sustainable economic growth,” Dr. Wheatley said.
The report also noted that BVI-linked transactions extended to global capital markets, including listings on major exchanges such as Nasdaq, the London Stock Exchange and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
Financial services remain a primary contributor to government revenue in the Virgin Islands.
