Sheldon Frett, an actor from Tortola, British Virgin Islands, and director Jehan Patterson’s short film “Many Thousands Lost,” which features Frett among its cast, has been selected for in-flight entertainment on American Airlines following its inclusion on the BAFTA longlist.
The film, which premiered at the American Black Film Festival, is currently being shown on American Airlines flights, placing it before an international audience of travelers.
Mr. Frett, reflecting on the milestone in a public statement, said, “Some accomplishments still seem like a dream. I’m just this kid from Tortola, BVI… To be on that very airline is just a testament to how good God is.”
Directed by Mr. Patterson, “Many Thousands Lost” is a short drama centered on a young girl confronting the reality that her father is not traveling for work but is awaiting execution in prison. The film has gained recognition on the festival circuit and was longlisted for a British Academy of Film and Television Arts award.
Mr. Frett is credited among the cast alongside Celeste Clark, Tristina Lee and Kris Sidberry. His work reflects a growing presence of Caribbean actors, including those from the Virgin Islands, in international independent film productions.
In his statement, Mr. Frett also credited the production team and collaborators, including Mr. Patterson, the cast and crew, and the American Black Film Festival for supporting the project’s premiere and wider distribution.
The placement of the film on a major international airline’s entertainment platform represents expanded visibility for the production and its contributors, including emerging talent from the Caribbean.
