Adaejah Hodge Shatters Records in Stunning 300-Meter Debut at VA Showcase
BVI’s Adaejah Hodge of Montverde Academy made her mark in the world of track and field yesterday, January 12, at The VA Showcase.
Competing in the 300-meter distance for the first time, Hodge clinched victory and broke the time barrier, securing a U.S. No. 4 all-time performance with a clocking of 36.97.
The newly updated all-time rankings now feature Hodge among the track and field elite, at the U.S. No. 4 spot. The top three spots are held by athletes Shawnti Jackson (36.63), Sydney McGlaughlin-Levrone (36.82), and Francena McCorory (36.96), with Hodge establishing her place in the company.
Hodge’s win was not just about claiming victory; it was a masterclass in strategy and execution. Almost immediately, she demonstrated her prowess by overtaking competitors, notably Elise Cooper on the outside and Sydney Sutton, who finished second in 37.39 and secured her a place in the record books at No. 7 all-time for the 300-meter distance.
The race also witnessed a strong showing from Josie Donelson, a teammate from Lake Oswego, who secured third place with a time of 37.89 seconds. Donelson’s performance now resides within the top 20 efforts in high school history, showcasing the depth of talent in this fiercely competitive event.
As Hodge’s name reverberates through the track and field community, her debut in the 300-meter distance has left a mark, setting the stage for an exciting chapter in her athletic journey.
