Eldred Henry, a powerhouse in the world of shot put, is poised to make waves at the Pan American 2023 Games in Chile.

The British Virgin Islands have already etched his name in history by becoming the first local athlete to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

This remarkable feat was accomplished at the Kingsville, Texas meet in 2019 when he unleashed a throw of 21.47 meters (70 feet, 5 1/4 inches), securing a personal best and simultaneously setting four records – outdoor national, Organization of Caribbean States (OECS), Great Midwest Athletics Conference (GMAC), and NCAA DII.

Henry’s prowess extends to indoor competitions as well. He holds national, OECS, and NCAA DII records for indoor shot put with a throw of 20.61 meters (60 feet, 7.5 inches).

His dedication and skill have earned him a CAC bronze medal, solidifying his status as a top contender.

Globally, Henry has reached impressive heights, ranking as high as number twenty in the world for men’s shot put and standing at number six in the region.

Despite missing the Tokyo 2020 Olympics due to an unfortunate elbow injury that flared up during a warm-up at the 2021 Track Meet in Southern California, this BVI star has been training diligently to secure a podium position at the PanAm Games in Santiago.

The prestigious competition opened on October 20 and will conclude on November 5.
