Premier Dr. Natalio Wheatley Represents BVI at Monaco Yacht Show and United Nations Meeting
Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr. Natalio Wheatley, is currently representing the British Virgin Islands (BVI) at two significant events: the Monaco Yacht Show and the United Nations Meeting in New York.
Dr. Wheatley is leading a delegation from the Virgin Islands Shipping Registry at the Monaco Yacht Show, an annual international exhibition dedicated to superyachts. The Premier sees this as an excellent opportunity to showcase the BVI as the world’s sailing capital and to promote the benefits of sailing and registering in the BVI. The BVI’s Red Ensign Category 1 Shipping Registry offers world-class services, making it an attractive option for yacht owners.
In New York, Dr. Wheatley will address the Fourth Committee (Special Political and Decolonization) at the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. His statement aims to advance the socio-economic and political interests of the Virgin Islands on the global stage.
During Dr. Wheatley’s absence, Deputy Premier and Minister for Financial Services, Labour, and Trade, Lorna G. Smith, OBE, has been appointed to act as Premier and Minister of Finance. This appointment is in accordance with the Virgin Islands Constitution Order, 2007, which grants the Deputy Premier the authority to assume these responsibilities when the Premier is expected to be away from the territory for more than forty-eight hours.
