The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) intercepted a substantial shipment of suspected cannabis during a routine inspection at Port Purcell, officials reported on Friday, December 13.

Customs officers, conducting a standard examination of a container, identified multiple suspicious items concealed within the shipment. Upon closer inspection, they discovered vacuum-sealed packages containing a green, plant-like substance believed to be cannabis.

The seized substance weighed 71.84 kilograms (71,840 grams) and carries an estimated street value of approximately $718,400.

RVIPF has launched an investigation into the discovery. No arrests have been announced, and details surrounding the container’s origin or intended destination remain undisclosed.

Commending the efforts of Customs officers, the RVIPF lauded their vigilance in intercepting the shipment before it could potentially reach local communities.

Officials have assured the public that further updates will be provided as the investigation unfolds.
