The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has made a significant contribution to youth development in the territory by donating $15,430 to the BVI Scouts and Girl Guides. The funds, raised during a 2020 Police Week raffle, were officially presented on August 25.

The fundraising initiative, spearheaded by the Police Week Planning Committee under the leadership of then Deputy Commissioner Alwin James, involved the raffle of a 2019 Ford Ranger XLT pickup truck, generously supported by Mr. Shan Mohammed of Tortola Auto Group (TAG). Other sponsors included NAGICO Insurance, Delta Petroleum, KAD Pools, PST Law, and Travel Wise.

The raffle, held on December 24, 2020, saw a fortunate resident of the East End community winning the vehicle. Grateful for the community’s support, the Committee decided to donate the proceeds to a deserving organization.

Recognizing the crucial role of the BVI Scouts and Girl Guides in teaching young people life skills, discipline, and values, the RVIPF chose these organizations as the recipients. Since Hurricane Irma’s devastating impact in 2017, the building where these groups host their activities has been in dire need of repairs, further highlighting the importance of the donation.

Acknowledging the delay in presenting the funds, the RVIPF expressed pride in supporting these organizations. “We are battling the loss of our young people to crime, drugs, and peer pressure, and we must commend these organizations for the work they are doing against all odds,” said an RVIPF representative.

The donation is expected to help the BVI Scouts and Girl Guides continue their invaluable work within the community, reinforcing the territory’s commitment to nurturing its youth.
