The Public Service Management Bill, recently approved by the Cabinet, received its first reading in the House of Assembly on August 16, 2024, marking a pivotal move toward modernizing the public service sector in the Virgin Islands.
The proposed legislation is designed to overhaul the management of government ministries and departments, aiming to enhance operational efficiency and ensure that the public service is better equipped to meet the evolving needs of the community. By clearly defining the roles and responsibilities of ministers and senior public officers, the Bill seeks to improve the delegation of functions and the effective management of ministerial staff.
A key feature of the Bill is its focus on increasing transparency and accountability within the public service, which is expected to foster greater public trust in government operations.
The Bill is now available for public review on the Government’s official website. Residents are encouraged to examine the details and share their feedback with their district and at-large representatives or submit comments directly to the House of Assembly via email at hoa@gov.vg.
