Marcus “Young Blood” Mark was crowned the winner of the Virgin Islands 70th Festival Calypso Competition last night, July 28, at the Larina “Rena” Jacobs-Lamothe Festival Village.

Young Blood captivated the audience and judges alike with his powerful performances of “The Antidote” and “The Miseducation of Marijuana,” earning him not only the title but also accolades for Best Lyric and Best Performance. As the new Calypso Monarch, he was awarded a $7,000 cash prize.

The competition, a part of the festivities leading up to the official opening of the festival village on Monday, saw five talented calypsonians vie for the coveted title.

These competitors included Renold “King Paido” Phillips, Titus “Mighty Rocky” Crabbe, Lester “Mighty Leh Leh” Fontane, and Samuel “The Mighty Cloud” Patrick, some of whom had also competed in the 2016 show where Joycelyn “Sistah Joyce” Searles of Virgin Gorda made history by winning the competition for the fourth consecutive year.
