In a music world often filled with short-lived hits and trends, Virgin Islands’ own Ouida Nisbett-Turnbull stands out with her heartfelt artistry and powerful storytelling.

Her latest project, the single and music video “GIANT,” is a testament to her profound ability to blend soaring vocals with resonant, uplifting messages that speak directly to the human spirit.

“GIANT” is more than just a song; it’s an anthem of resilience and empowerment. With lyrics that urge us to “stand tall as GIANTS” and overcome life’s bitter challenges, Nisbett-Turnbull reminds us of our inherent strength and capacity to “write our greatest stories now.” Her vocal performance, both tender and commanding, captures the essence of her message, compelling listeners to pause, reflect, and rise above adversity.

At the helm of the production is the two-time Grammy-nominated multi-platinum producer Drew “Druski” Scott. Known for his work with renowned artists such as Red Velvet, Nick Jonas, and Zendaya, Druski brings a polished yet emotive soundscape to “GIANT” that perfectly complements Nisbett-Turnbull’s dynamic voice.

The music video, a visual feast that amplifies the song’s themes, was created and directed by the talented Phil Richards, Island Director. His keen eye for storytelling and cinematic flair brings the lyrics to life, creating an immersive experience for viewers. Andrea Wilson, known in creative circles as Jahphix, once again proves her genius with graphics that visually encapsulate the spirit of the song.

Integral to the video’s success are the dedicated actors and actresses who brought authenticity and depth to their roles. Notably, Nisbett-Turnbull’s husband plays the father figure, a role that “inspired the concept for the single’s cover art.” The lead student actors, Kimelia Pickering and Xhayne Pemberton, delivered standout performances, embodying the song’s message with grace and conviction. Additional commendations go to Keaura Turnbull, Ouida’s bonus daughter, and fellow student actors Abbria Hodge, Madissen Browne, Jayda Beazer, Nickesha Smith, Leo Hewlett, and Nicquan McLaughlin, all of whom “did an amazing job.”

Special thanks are due to the brilliant makeup artist Rhea Kelly, whose expertise added a touch of visual perfection to the project. The BVI Elmore Stoutt High School principals, especially Mr. Cecil Hodge, Ms. DeWindt, Student Counselor, and Ms. Deann Parsons, played crucial roles in facilitating the video project, demonstrating the community’s strong support for the arts.

Additionally, gratitude extends to Mr. Andre Brathwaite, a “music genius and Ouida’s former schoolmate,” who graciously allowed the use of his music items, enhancing the project’s rich auditory landscape. Ms. Kyia Stoutt’s assistance with the student vocalists was invaluable, particularly during their captivating performance at the 2024 High School Exit Evening on June 27, 2024.

“GIANT” is more than just a new single from Ouida, it’s a rallying cry for resilience and self-empowerment. With the combined efforts of these talented individuals, the project stands as a masterpiece that promises to leave everyone inspired, reaffirming the power of music to uplift and unite.

As we embrace the message of “GIANT,” we are reminded that no matter the challenges life presents, we possess the strength to overcome and thrive, standing tall and proud as giants in our own right.
