Heavy Rain Triggers Flash Flood Warning in British Virgin Islands

Residents of the British Virgin Islands are urged to exercise extreme caution as heavy rain has led to severe flooding in Road Town and surrounding areas.

The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services issued a Flash Flood Warning, effective until 5:30 PM today, Wednesday, May 7.

The warning highlights the imminent threat of moderate to major flooding in low-lying and flood-prone regions. Authorities emphasise the perilous nature of flash flooding, urging residents to seek higher ground immediately. Those residing along streams, creeks, and low-lying areas are advised to take immediate precautions to safeguard life and property.

Officials caution against attempting to cross swiftly flowing waters, whether on foot or in a vehicle, as just one foot of moving water can be enough to sweep a car off the road. Motorists encountering flooded roads are urged to exercise extreme caution and, when in doubt, to turn around rather than risking drowning.

Residents are reminded to stay informed and heed all official advisories to ensure their safety in this challenging weather situation.
