Romaine Baird Charged with Theft and Fraudulent Credit Card Use
The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has pressed charges against Romaine Baird, a 34-year-old resident of Pasea Estate, for alleged theft, obtaining property by deception, and possession of proceeds of criminal conduct. The RVIPF has hailed this prosecution as a significant advancement in its ongoing crusade against financial crimes within the territory.
According to reports, Mr. Baird stands accused of unlawfully acquiring and utilising someone’s credit card for unauthorised transactions, amounting to over $19,000 both locally and internationally.
Baird has been granted bail in the sum of $40,000 and is slated to appear before the Magistrate’s Court on April 24.
Commissioner of Police Mark Collins emphasised the gravity of such allegations, stating, “We take allegations of financial misconduct seriously and are committed to thoroughly investigating such matters.” He further underscored the dedication of law enforcement officers who have diligently worked over several months to uncover the truth in this case.
Commissioner Collins also affirmed the RVIPF’s commitment to collaboration with local and international authorities to ensure that justice is served and to maintain the integrity of financial systems.
