Premier Wheatley Announces 50% Implementation Milestone in UK-Virgin Islands Recommendations

Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Dr. Natalio D. Wheatley, declared that 50 percent of the recommendations outlined in the implementation framework between the Governments of the Virgin Islands and the United Kingdom have been successfully implemented.

Providing a comprehensive update on the Commission of Inquiry (COI) recommendations implementation process, Premier Wheatley announced that as of 30th November 2023, the 50 recommendations encompass a total of 131 separate actions. Impressively, 80 of these actions, constituting 61 percent, have been fully completed.

Premier Wheatley emphasised the commitment to transparency and effective governance, assuring the Virgin Islands public that ongoing updates will be provided, offering a detailed breakdown of progress on the 131 actions in the coming weeks.

Acknowledging the dedication and commitment demonstrated by public officers in the holistic reform process, Premier Wheatley commended the resoluteness of officers across ministries over the near two-year period in executing the recommendations.

The Premier expressed gratitude, stating, “This has only been possible through the hard work of our officers. I can assure all of them that this Government stands with them, and together we will ensure that decision-making in the Virgin Islands continues to be underpinned by democratic governance, maintains our self-determination, and protects the interests of all Virgin Islanders.”

Highlighting the Government of the Virgin Islands’  commitment to the overall development of the Territory through sustainable transformation, Premier Wheatley concluded the conference by reiterating the collective determination to uphold democratic principles and prioritise the welfare of all Virgin Islanders.
