The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has officially confirmed the tragic incident that unfolded last night, January 1, in Kingstown, reporting that one female was trapped and subsequently lost her life in a house fire.

Fire and rescue officers were on the scene promptly and, with the aid of a neighbor’s water sources, successfully doused the inferno.

During their initial search last night, they were unable to locate the victim’s body. However, upon their return to the scene in the early morning hours of today, January 2, the charred remains of the woman were tragically discovered amid the rubble.

Minutes after the blaze was observed, neighbours in the vicinity reported hearing a loud explosion shortly before 8 pm.

Two sisters were reportedly at home at the time of the incident, with one outside and the other in her bedroom. Jahphix Television (JTV) has learned that the sister who managed to escape attempted to rescue her sibling, but the smoke and flames proved too intense for her efforts.

While the victim’s identity is known to authorities, it is being withheld at this time, respecting the ongoing investigations surrounding the incident.
