An incident involving a physical altercation between the captain and crew of a ferry service and Anegada residents is reportedly under investigation by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF).

The confrontation unfolded yesterday afternoon, November 29, 2023, upon the passenger ferry’s arrival at Setting Point Dock.

Multiple sources confirm that the fight erupted following a heated verbal exchange over cargo handling between the captain and island residents.

One resident expressed longstanding frustrations, stating, “This is overbearing. Anegada residents have had enough. We’ve been facing issues, especially with this particular captain, who always speaks aggressively, curses, and mishandles our cargo.”

Eyewitnesses allege that the dispute intensified when the captain was accused of carelessly “tossing” cargo off the ferry. A witness described the situation, saying, “The man was tossing everything without care, and after he pitched off a box with fragile content, the owner rebuked him. They were both in each other’s face, and the captain put his hand on the resident, who retaliated, and chaos ensued.”

According to others, a second resident was attacked while attempting to retrieve his cargo, allegedly assaulted by another member of the ferry crew. “He put his hand on the wrong man. He got what he had coming,” remarked an observer.

In the midst of the altercation, it is reported that the Dock Master was knocked unconscious while attempting, alongside others, to separate the feuding parties.

JTV has learned that officers from the RVIPF swiftly intervened, bringing an end to the brawl and initiating a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
