Public Schools in the East End of Tortola Closed Due to Water and Electricity Interruption

Today, October 17, 2023, all staff and students of the two public schools in the East End of Tortola were instructed to stay at home. This decision was made due to necessary maintenance works being carried out by the BVI Electricity Corporation on one of its high-power lines.

The maintenance works are expected to affect several communities in the East End, leading to temporary disruptions in water and electricity supply. The Government Information Agency had previously issued an advisory on October 18, providing advanced notice to residents about the scheduled outages. The advisory also mentioned that the water supply to communities serviced by the Bar Bay Water Plant would also be interrupted.

As of press time, JTV has received reports from several areas that were scheduled to be affected by the maintenance works, confirming that neither the water nor electricity outages have occurred yet.

The maintenance works are scheduled to take place between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm, during which time both water and electricity services will be temporarily unavailable.
