Unsettling Reportsof a Robbery and Shooting at BVIEC Office turns out to be a Simulation Exercise
A series of alarming phone calls received by Jahphix Television (JTV) around noon today indicated that a robbery and shooting incident was in progress at the BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) Long Bush Office in Tortola. According to the callers, two individuals were allegedly injured during the incident. However, it has now been revealed that this was not an actual crime but a simulation exercise conducted by the BVIEC.
This simulation exercise went beyond the premises of the BVIEC, as the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital also became involved. As part of the drill, the hospital was placed on lockdown, adding to the sense of realism and testing the emergency response capabilities of both organizations.
When contacted, the General Manager of the BVIEC, Mr. Neil Smith, clarified that a simulation exercise was being carried out to evaluate the organization’s readiness and response to emergencies.
A public advisory had been issued, stating that the BVIEC office at Long Bush, Tortola, would be closed on Friday, October 13 from 11 am. however, the simulation exercise was not mentioned in the advisory.
