In an official statement, the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs, and Sports has dismissed allegations of firearms and weapons being involved in the incident at Elmore Stoutt High School (ESHS) that took place on Monday, October 9. The Ministry reassures parents, students, and members of the ESHS community that the safety and well-being of everyone within the school community remain the top priority.

According to the Ministry, the incident involved an alleged retaliation in connection with a stolen bike. One student left the school premises, prompting immediate action from school officials who launched an investigation. The situation escalated to the point where local law enforcement was contacted for assistance.

Fortunately, authorities were already present on the campus when the student who had left returned, accompanied by three individuals on bikes, one of whom was wearing a mask.

It is important to note that no firearms or other weapons were found in their possession. The police were able to swiftly apprehend the individuals, bringing the situation under control in under 15 minutes.

In an effort to keep parents fully informed, the school promptly communicated the details of the incident via email and social media. Additionally, parents were given the option to collect their children from school early, prioritizing their peace of mind during this concerning time.

Unfortunately, misinformation surrounding the incident has caused disruption both on and off the campus. The Ministry urges all members of the community to rely on official updates and information from the school administration to ensure the accuracy of the details they receive.

The Ministry of Education reiterates its commitment to the safety and security of students and staff. A zero-tolerance policy is in place to address matters of indiscipline and poor student conduct. The well-being of everyone within the school community remains the highest priority.

“We appreciate your understanding, cooperation, and continued support during this time,” the Ministry stated. Together, they vow to work diligently to uphold the safety and conducive learning environment that students at ESHS deserve.

As investigations continue, the Ministry of Education will provide further updates to keep the community informed.
