Twenty-eight talented aspiring young footballers experienced their first British Virgin Islands Football Association National Academy early morning session on September 30 at the Greenland Field in East End, Tortola.

The excited group of boys and girls from across the territory trained for two hours from 6:45 a.m.

In September, a total of forty-eight aspiring players between nine and 13 years old attended several tryout sessions and were evaluated by coaches on their knowledge of the game, skills and teamwork capabilities.

“So out of forty-eight players, thirty-one were invited into the academy, eleven intothe Development Centre and six were encouraged to continue developing skills in grassroots programme,” the BVIFA explained.

The Academy is an elite programme to train young players and prepare them to represent the territory on junior national teams at an international level.

The BVIFA is investing heavily in football at the grassroots level where young talents are discovered, nurtured, and taught the  fundamental skills and knowledge necessary for their future growth in the sport.

National Academy sessions will be held every Saturday.
