Youth Affairs and Sports Collaborates with Virgin Islands Volleyball Association for Grassroot Sports Programme
The Department of Youth Affairs and Sports has forged a partnership with the Virgin Islands Volleyball Association (VIVA) to enhance their After School Grassroot Sports Programme. This collaboration aims to provide valuable opportunities for the youth in the territory.
The volleyball association’s visiting professional coach, Mr. Caio Moutinho de Carvalho, will assume a crucial role in supporting multiple initiatives. His first task will involve sharing his expertise with the teams participating in the DYAS Industrial Volleyball League.
Notably, his involvement extends to preparing the male Under-23 National Team for the upcoming Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Championships, scheduled to take place from 11th to 16th October in the territory. This partnership comes as a welcome opportunity to enhance the team’s performance and showcase their talent on a regional stage.
Furthermore, Mr. Carvalho will conduct a comprehensive refresher course for volleyball coaches, equipping them with the most up-to-date techniques and strategies in the sport. He will also work closely with Physical Education teachers, supporting them in delivering engaging and effective P.E. classes. Additionally, he will collaborate with beach volleyball teams, fostering their skills and promoting the growth of the sport.
