His Majesty’s Prison at Balsum Ghut, Tortola, has been placed on lockdown indefinitely, according to reliable sources.

The lockdown comes in the wake of a series of incidents that occurred on September 21, one of which involved a police chase of two individuals acting suspiciously near the prison premises.

During the pursuit, one of the suspects discarded a bag, which was later recovered by the police. The bag contained three firearms, including a semi-automatic weapon and two pistols. This alarming discovery adds to the growing number of firearms seized in September, now totaling five.

In response to these concerning events, security measures at the prison have been significantly intensified. The decision to impose an indefinite lockdown aims to ensure the safety and security of both prison staff and inmates. The exact duration of the lockdown remains uncertain at this time.

Authorities are actively investigating the incidents and working to ascertain the identities and motives of the individuals involved. The heightened security measures implemented inside the prison will assist in preventing any potential threats from escalating.

JTV will continue to closely monitor this developing story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
