Sha’Carri Richardson Shatters Record, Secures World Title with Blazing 10:65s Finish
American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson, who encountered setbacks at the Tokyo Olympics following a positive marijuana test, defied all odds and rose as the world champion in Hungary on Monday, clocking an astonishing time of 10.65s.
In her debut at the global championship, Richardson surpassed Jamaican athletes Shericka Jackson, who secured the silver medal with a time of 10.72 seconds, and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who claimed the bronze with a time of 10.77 seconds.
Prior to the final race, Richardson encountered an obstacle when she recorded the second-slowest reaction time among the 24 semifinalists, just an hour before the event. However, she quickly regained her composure, delivering an impressive performance in her semi-final and securing her place in the eight-woman final as a time qualifier.
This remarkable achievement comes just two years after Richardson’s disqualification from the Olympic Trials 100m event. Despite not being selected for the previous year’s world championships team and facing the challenges of an injury, Richardson’s unwavering resolve propelled her to this incredible feat.
