Director of Waste Management and Green VI Team Strengthen Partnership to Promote Recycling Efforts
Mr. Marcus Solomon, the Director of Waste Management, recently met with the team from Green VI to enhance the partnership between both organizations and promote recycling initiatives within the Territory.
Acknowledging the department’s mission to divert recyclable waste from the landfill, especially in the absence of the incinerator, Mr. Solomon emphasized the importance of strengthening the relationship with Green VI. He stated, “Expanding our waste diversion efforts is crucial, and collaborating with Green VI will greatly contribute to achieving this goal.”
During the meeting, Mr. Solomon visited the Eco Park and expressed satisfaction with the operations of Green VI. “We had the opportunity to discuss several critical issues affecting the sector. We agreed to improve the memorandum of understanding, addressing key gaps, and implementing projects that will further strengthen our partnership with Green VI and their connection with the public,” he explained.
Currently, over 60% of the garbage collected in the waste stream is recyclable. The community is encouraged to actively participate in reducing waste production by adopting practices such as composting, minimizing the use of bottled items, reducing paper consumption, reusing items, and recycling.
Mr. Solomon urged community members to volunteer with Green VI whenever possible, embrace a recycling mindset, set up recycling stations at home, and properly rinse and separate plastics, glass, and aluminum.
The Ministry of Health and Social Development remains committed to efficiently managing all aspects of the environment that could adversely impact public health. Their goal is to ensure that all individuals in the BVI can attain and maintain optimal health and well-being.
