Airports Closed Due To Workers Strike
Airports across the British Virgin Islands are today closed as staff members of the BVI Airports Authority took industrial actions over working conditions causing major travel disruptions for hundreds of passengers.
Flights, including American Airlines service from Miami, were either delayed, or cancelled out of the Terrence B. Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island and the Taddy Bay Airport on Virgin Gorda.
A source said airport staff walked off this morning, July 17, over unresolved labour issues, including working conditions and remuneration.
Efforts are currently underway by the BVIAA to engage in discussions with the protesting staff members in order to find a resolution and resume normal operations as soon as possible.
