Othniel Gillins Leads U15 Heptaplon After Three Events
British Virgin Islands junior athlete Othniel Gillins has topped the board in the Under 15 Heptathlon after only three events at the North America, Central América and Caribbean Athletics Association (NACAC) Under 13 and 15 Age Group Championships.
Gillins has 2355 points after the 80-metre race, high jump and shot put. He has to complete three more events, including long jump in Santiago, Dominican Republic.
In second place is Anguilla Tarique Jackson with 2237 points, followed by Ricardo Mann of St Lucia with 2218 points.
The Championships opened on Saturday, July 15 and will close today, July 16.
The BVI team has eight athletes at the NACAC U13 and U15 Age Group Championships – Othniel Gillins, Ty’rique Charles, Jameila Chambers, Deneil Clarke, Shakhoya Richards, Tiffany Herbert, Bryson Walters and Kerjani Prevost.
They are presently competing in various categories against athletes from Cuba, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Honduras, the Bahamas, and other Caribbean countries.
Team officials are Ericca Fredrick, Carl Barrett, Chantal Scatliffe and Burt Dorsett.
