A total of twenty-two recommendations were listed in the final Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park (CBRTPP) security audit report to strengthen safety protocols at the park.

The comprehensive final report was handed over to the Minister of Communications and Works Kye Rymer who held a review meeting with key stakeholders – British Virgin Islands Ports Authority, Tortola Pier Park Limited (TPPL), British Virgin Islands Tourist Board (BVITB), and Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) – to discuss the report on July 12.

During the meeting, Minister Rymer expressed his satisfaction with the progress made so far.

He revealed that the CBRTPP was already in the process of implementing significant security measures in line with the recommendations. One of the notable enhancements includes the installation of a new electronic gating system, which will ensure the park is adequately secured during closure periods.

Additionally, upgrades to the existing CCTV system will be carried out, enabling improved surveillance capabilities within the park.

Furthermore, there will be an increase in security personnel presence to deter criminal activities and provide a sense of security for visitors.

The security audit was done following the daring July 1 daylight armed robbery at the House of Luxury jewellery store in the Park.

Two men have since been charged with robbery under arms and were remanded to prison.

Minister Rymer acknowledged the support and understanding of the community in this endeavor, stating, “we appreciate the continued support and understanding of the community as we work together to enhance security at the Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park.”

The review meeting ensured that all stakeholders are actively involved in the implementation of these vital security measures.

The statement said the Ministry of Communications and Works remains committed to prioritising the safety of all individuals within the Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park.

The Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park is a top social spot for locals and tourists alike, and the swift implementation of the recommendations and additional security measures demonstrates the dedication to addressing recent incidents and creating a secure environment for park visitors, the statement added.
